Presented by talented queer people of colour (QPOC) artists Natalie de Rozario and Yasamin Khadembashi, this workshop invites you to join forces with fellow creatives as you co-create unique temporary tattoos.
Dive deep into the meaning behind tattoo designs. Explore how temporary tattoos empower us to reclaim our personal narratives. This workshop celebrates the beauty and strength that tattoos can bring.
Sip on complimentary homemade tea courtesy of Moon Hangs, and bring along your own cultural foods to share a feast with kindred spirits on Thursday April 11, 3pm – 6pm at Victoria Park Centre for the Arts.
*Note that this workshop prioritises in engaging with those gender-diverse youth aged 12+, who find it helpful to identify with an Asian-Australian background. That is, those that have been born and/or raised in Asia, or are children of immigrants from the Asian region, and still hold onto culturally significant markers of the region (through family or other means) as they live, study and work on Noongar Boodja (Perth).
About Moon Hangs:
Moon Hangs are word-of-mouth gatherings that help foster a space for documenting stories, mutual aid, and empowering one's Asian diasporic cultural identity. We're also operating with a fluid attitude towards supporting Asian-run businesses, artists, organisers and creative collectives that empower the diasporic community. There is a Moon Hang Library which is free to browse and take home anything that inspires you. These events are free, and run monthly at different locations (with dates revolving around the full moon when we can!). Moon Hangers can volunteer to act as hosts if they have event ideas they'd like to put forward. We ask that, as a point of connection, everyone bring a plate of nibbles or prepare something that reminds them of home. Tea will always be brewed. Please enjoy a joyful time with us. Bring yourself and something to share (food, treasured items or stories!)
We would like to acknowledge and give gratitude to the First Nations folks of the Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, on which our Full Moon Hangs take place. We are guests on this land and understand that sovereignty was never ceded. We offer our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging of the continuing cultures of this beautiful land.
Our efforts to create a diasporic community on this land are not in vain, but informed by understandings of nuanced and non-categorical cultural histories & individual experiences that make up identity. We encourage open thought and expression regarding these topics, and want to open multiple channels of communication. May that be online, physical, written, or verbal, accessible to those who are hard of hearing, or if English is a second language.
The event is wheelchair accessible, welcoming to companion card holders and support persons, and support animal friendly. More Access Info
